We finally have our darling little Sasha Mei Liette in our arms! Yesterday was quite an incredible day! After our early departure from Beijing and our 3 hour flight to Guangzhou we had an hour and a half to prepare for our appointment at the Chinese Civil Affairs Office. We arrived to a room full of parents awaiting their first meeting of the children and watched as one by one they tearfully met their beautiful babies. The room was heavy with the emotion of it all. There was a family adopting a 14 year old blind girl and a family from Texas adopting a little 10 year old. It was all so beautiful!

We waited and waited and slowly the room became silent as one by one each family left. Sasha was still not here - it was now an hour after we were to meet her. As we waited and prayed we watched two more sets of nannies walk quickly through the door with babies. Even at a quick glance I knew neither were our little Sasha. Then just a few minutes later two more nannies came through the door and quickly scooted into the next room. I just knew that was our Sasha! Within minutes they were putting her in my arms. Oh how beautiful and precious. She tried to cry the softest little cries, but hardly any noise came out. Mostly just whimpers. But she was clearly not wanting to be in my arms, and the minute we got close to the nannies she just wanted them.

Eventually the nannies left and we finally had some time just with her. After a quick shopping trip for some formula etc. we made it back to our room. She is doing great! We had to call our doctor in Cincinnati Children's with some questions last night, but we think she is doing better today. I will feel alot better to get her home and have a good checkup. Even though we know she was certainly loved by her nanny, things are not the same here as far as cleanliness and care. Please pray for her health.

Today has been great so far-we all got a good night sleep (our first one since we arrived). We did more paperwork at the Civil Affairs Office and now Sasha is sleeping so I am able to post.
All of her clothes are too big. She is an iddy biddy little thing (although not when I am carrying her for 6 hours!) and we have about 3 things that fit her. Wait until I start cooking for her though!!!

We've seen a couple of little comfort mechanisms that she seems to use - common among orphans and that is sad. But we are absolutely thrilled. She loves the bath and the minute I started the water for the first time she had one leg over the tub wanting in it! She loves her new little touch and feel cat book! I think it is her favorite toy so far (besides Dave) and it was the first thing she wanted to see this morning!

We love and miss you Brady and Mikelle, but you are going to love your adorable little sister!

Cheryl and Dave,

What a cutie, I'm in love!!!! Her petite little body reminds me so much of Maryn at that age. I can't wait until Maryn gets home from school today so I can show her the pictures of her new "little buddy".

Love you guys.

Carla
